Lifestyle Medicine Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based approach to preventing, treating and even reversing weight problems and/or other health conditions by promoting healthy, practical and sustainable behaviors, such as: 1) Eating a diet rich in whole, plant-based food; 2) Being physically active on a regular, consistent basis; 3) Developing daily strategies to manage stress; 4) Obtaining adequate sleep; 5) Having a strong emotional support system; and 6) Avoiding risky substance use. The Lifestyle Medicine program at Olivera Health + Wellness consists of Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching sessions and Lifestyle Medicine appointments.
2. What is the difference between Olivera’s Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching and Olivera’s Lifestyle Medicine appointments?
Our Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching appointments are designed to help you take charge of your weight and health naturally via specific dietary changes, improvements in stress management, incorporation of a regular exercise plan and overall, implementation of healthy, sustainable daily habits. These appointments are not meant to provide treatment, replace your doctor’s advise or diagnose any health problems. They are also not appropriate for clients/patients with multiple chronic or complex health conditions.
If you are looking for something beyond just natural weight and wellness management offered by the Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching, our Lifestyle Medicine sessions might be a better fit for you! These appointments are designed to provide our patients with a much deeper dive into their health. If you are suffering from multiple chronic health concerns, such as thyroid dysfunction, hormonal disruption, gastrointestinal problems and/or autoimmune disorders, Dr. Eva can work with you on a more individualized and comprehensive level in an effort to uncover the root cause(s) behind these challenging conditions.
Please refer to our WHAT TO EXPECT/FIRST VISIT section for more details on what to expect from each visit.
3. What is the cost of the Lifestyle Medicine program?
The cost of our Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching program is $100 for initial visit and $50 for follow-up appointments. The cost of the Lifestyle Medicine appointments is $300 for initial visit and $150 for subsequent visits. Payment for all of Olivera’s Lifestyle Medicine appointments is due in advance of each visit in order to secure your spot on Dr. Eva’s limited schedule, and confirm your commitment to beginning a healthier lifestyle.
4. Do you offer advanced functional medicine testing as part of the Lifestyle Medicine program?
Yes! Functional medicine testing is available for those patients participating in our Lifestyle Medicine appointments only. Lab testing is not available for Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching clients. Please note that all advanced functional medicine testing comes at an additional expense to the patient and although not required, it is often recommended by Dr. Eva to help decode the reason behind your chronic symptoms and further personalize your care.
5. Are Lifestyle Medicine appointments covered by health insurance?
We do not accept any insurance at this time. Health insurance companies also typically don’t cover Lifestyle/Functional Medicine type of appointments. However, if requested, we will provide you with a “superbill” which you can use to request reimbursement from your insurance provider.
