There is no wrong motivation, so long as we are honest with ourselves and keep it healthy and safe. But like with most things in life, sometimes, our motivation falters. But remember, with the right tools, support, and mindset, it is possible to reach our weight loss goals and feel proud of the progress we have made. So today we are going to go over some time-tested ways of making sure we stay on course.

Everyone Needs Support

One of the most effective methods to stay motivated during weight loss is to find a support system. After all, even though a weight loss journey is deeply personal, people are social creatures. If we feel better about ourselves, so will the people in our lives. There is no need to be alone in our efforts, so consider finding a person (or a few, whatever works!) to talk to about your goals and your progress, and to reach out when you feel your motivation waning. This can be a friend or family member who also wants to lose weight, a support group, or a professional coach. Having someone to talk to and share our experiences with can help us stay accountable and on track with our goals. Additionally, a support system can offer encouragement, help us see the positive changes we are making, and give us hope for a better and healthier future.

KISS (Keep It Safe and Simple)

A good way of staying motivated is to make the weight loss journey safe and easy, both on our bodies and our minds. This means setting achievable goals, focusing on healthy habits rather than quick fixes, and finding a balance between exercise and nutrition that works for us. Incorporating physical activity into our daily routine, even if it’s just a short walk, can help increase our energy levels and boost our mood, making it easier to stick to our weight loss plan. Try to think of one constructive activity that isn’t more enjoyable when we’re happy or energized (aside from sleep). Can’t do it, can you?

Keep a Journal

Writing down our daily progress, thoughts, and feelings can help us stay motivated and see the progress we have made. This can also be a helpful tool in identifying triggers that may cause us to slip up and ways to overcome them. As a result, it also becomes a great tool for accountability. If we don’t track what we’re doing, it’s easy to forget. But when we record it, we can’t help but want to do right by ourselves.

Celebrate Small Victories

Sometimes, it only takes something as easy as celebrating ourselves to stay motivated. And why not take pride and joy in our small but steady achievements? After all, a win is a win! Achieving small milestones along the way can help us stay motivated and build confidence in our ability to reach our final goal. Whether it’s fitting into a smaller size of clothing or reaching a certain weight, celebrate each and victory along the way, because they are markers of each and every step you took to get there!

Find Physical Activity You Enjoy

Remember what we said about things being more enjoyable when we’re happy? Well, apply it to your physical activity! No doubt exercise is a powerful tool in weight loss, but it’s important to find something we enjoy doing. Whether it’s dancing, swimming, or hiking, finding a physical activity we enjoy will make it easier to stick to our routine and stay motivated. Who said weight loss isn’t fun?

Don’t Compare Yourself Against Others

This one is tricky because all of us are guilty of it. But ultimately, it’s important to remember that when we embark on a weight loss journey, we are doing it for ourselves. Comparing ourselves to others can be detrimental to our motivation and self-esteem. Instead, focus on our own journey and the progress we have made.

Reframe Negative Thoughts

It’s important to note the mental side of eight loss. We are trying to build better habits, but sometimes, old habits, or even thinking of our old habits can send it spiraling. Negative self-talk can be detrimental to motivation. Reframing negative thoughts into positive ones can help increase motivation and boost self-esteem. The easiest way out of these pitfalls is to simply talk our way out of them. Next time you are having negative thoughts regarding your weight, take a breath, and remind yourself of the progress. What we we’re is not who we’re trying to be. Focus on what you’ve achieved, and these negative moments will vanish as quickly as they came!

Regaining Motivation

Sometimes, we really to need to give ourselves a bit of a pep talk. It’s a part of the process, after all. When you feel like your motivation is gone, reflect on why you started: Remembering your initial goals and the reasons you wanted to lose weight can help reignite motivation and get you back on track. Remember, this is all part of you becoming the best you, so don’t lose hope and give in just because of some setbacks. Forgive yourself and keep at it!
