Sweet Treats That Will Keep You Losing Weight

Losing weight can be hard!  Especially if you have a “sweet tooth.”  Cravings for sweets can be intense and for some, very challenging to resist.  For many people, it is what is standing between them and losing weight.  Check out these sweet treats.  They will satisfy your sweets craving but are lower in calories than most desserts and will help you stay on track!

When it comes to indulging, portion size is key!  Having small portions of sweets on occasion can help keep you on track and prevent feelings of deprivation.  It is also important to have a healthy relationship with food, so focus on appropriate portion sizes rather than “never” foods.  Try these delicious treats next time you are craving something sweet.

1-2 dark chocolate covered strawberries

1-2 tablespoons of dark chocolate chips or 1-2 miniature or “nugget” sized pieces of dark chocolate

1 cup of low-sugar hot-cocoa with 2 TBSP of whipped cream

An apple dipped in 2 tablespoons of caramel

1 piece of whole grain toast with 1 tsp of butter, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar

1 oz sweetened (not candied) nuts, like cocoa almonds, coconut cashews, honey-roasted peanuts

A 100% fruit/vegetable popsicle

1 cup of fresh berries drizzled with 1/2 tablespoon of chocolate or caramel, topped with 2 tablespoons of whipped cream

1 chocolate covered banana

1 cup Halo-Top or Arctic Zero ice cream (ice creams with protein and fiber, lower in calories)

Of course, you can have regular “desserts” as well, but if you are trying to lose weight, you have to be mindful of how often you are having them, whereas the desserts listed above can be enjoyed more frequently WHILE you are losing weight (compared with cake, muffins, etc.).
