Healthy Microwave Popcorn!

If you are trying to lose weight but still need an easy, tasty snack, try making your own “homemade” microwave popcorn!  With this recipe, you will make your own popcorn, at a fraction of the cost of bagged popcorn at the store, without any of the trans-fats or unhealthy saturated fats.  Plus, it will only take about thirty seconds of additional effort!  Better yet, you can season it with some of these delicious seasoning ideas.

Microwave Popcorn

1/2 cup unpopped popcorn

1 tsp olive oil or canola oil


  1. Mix together the unpopped popcorn and oil.
  2. Pour the coated corn into a brown paper lunch sack.  Fold the top of the bag over twice to seal in the ingredients.
  3. Cook in the microwave for about 3 minutes, or until you hear pauses of about 2 seconds between pops.
  4. Carefully open the bag to avoid steam, and pour into a serving bowl.  

Seasoning Options

Sprinkle of salt (to taste)

Grated Parmesan cheese

Diced apples and shredded cheddar cheese

Sprinkle of homemade Cajun seasoning (2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, 2 TBSP salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1 pinch cayenne pepper)

Sprinkle of Southwest seasoning (1 1/2 tsp chili pwoder, 2 TBSP salt, 1 TBSP cumin)

Sprinkle of Italian seasoning (1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese, 1/2 tsp dried oregano, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper)
